This camp will be in person at the UM Detroit Center and is only open to residents of Detroit. Camp will be weekdays June 10-21, 9:00am-5:00pm. The application will open March 15 and will close on May 1.

This camp is for rising 8th, 9th, and 10th graders who want to immerse in a dynamic learning environment where they will engage in exciting experiments, interactive workshops, and collaborative projects.  They will learn how Physics is not only fun but also fosters critical skills essential for success in the 21st-century workforce.

How Much Does it Cost?
AP in the D is completely free! As part of Saturdays in the D, the City of Detroit and sponsor Ally Financial are covering all costs of the program. Lunch will also be provided.

When and Where is It?
Applying Physics in the D will be held in the Michigan Engineering Zone in the UM Detroit Center 3663 Woodward Ave, Suite 150 in Detroit. Camp is held from June 10-21 from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Who is Eligible to Apply?
You are eligible to apply for AP in the D if: 

  • You will be in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade in fall 2024
  • You are a resident of the city of Detroit
  • You have an interest in science and how it can be used to make the world a better place
  • You want to learn how you can support diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM.
  • You submit a complete application no later than May 1, 2024.

No previous experience in Physics is necessary.

How Will I Be Notified of Acceptance?
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. You will be notified by email. If the camp fills, you will be added to a waitlist and notified by email both when you apply and if you receive a spot in camp.
